The Russian Doll, Nesting Doll, Style of Reading Tarot

In my Tarot classes I always describe what I do, but apparently it wasn't clear until I showed my personal planner.

I "Russian Doll" my readings.
If you aren't familiar with Russian dolls they are also called "Nesting Dolls" and "Matryoshka Dolls". Traditionally they are shown with a woman in a bonnet and it's the same woman getting smaller and smaller.

Here is an image of an owl version where you can see how they get smaller, but each smaller one goes inside the bigger one.

I just purchased this set from:
https://www.etsy.com/shop/BlankDollUkraine

This is how I do my personal readings. That big owl on the left is the Year reading. The owl next to it is the Month Reading. The middle owl is the Weekly Reading. The owl after that is the Daily Reading. And then last but not least is the little owl that's a reading about a specific issue or event that may come up.

The Year Reading encompasses the  Monthly Reading which encompasses the Weekly Reading, which encompasses the Daily Reading which encompasses the specific reading.

Another way to look at is from the top down. Like so.

You can see how each one is embraced. Sure, some specific readings may be an ongoing issue, but it is still encompassed by the other Readings and it's only the Daily card that changes.

Below is an example of how I do my readings. My Year Reading was The Sun (19), and so I kept that in mind as I did my Monthly, Weekly, and Daily Reading. This method is also a FANTASTIC way to get to know your cards.

I am not at all perfect at it, as you can see with this example, I left out one day and I didn't always write down more than what cards were drawn. I also include what deck I used as well. You can also see that I switch up the kind of daily reading that I do, and that I also do an expanded monthly reading

This method works for me. It helps me stay grounded and focused. And often gives me much needed reminders of things that need to be kept in mind.
It's okay to take breaks, especially when you feel angry or frustrated with the cards, to come back later, or to only do parts of this. I especially have to come back later when I'm angry because I'm not in a place to receive the message!

The point is that it's supposed to be helpful to you, not a chore to be done. I have to remember sometimes, that it's not a chore but a chance to actually to PLAY with my cards! And not beat myself when I'm perfect.

If you have questions feel free to contact me or to leave a comment. Feel free to share what worked for you and what didn't too! Always interested. :)

The Reiki Principles and Tarot Elements.

This article was originally published on Reiki Rays:

This is something that came to me while teaching a Reiki lesson to students that have also been to my Tarot classes. One of my students then noticed how the Reiki principles also track with the four cardinal directions.

For me, this connection provides an enrichment between these.

These are the Reiki Principles.
πŸŒ› Just for today, I will not be blinded by anger.
πŸŒ› Just for today, I will not be blinded by worry.
πŸŒ› Just for today, I will feel grateful.
πŸŒ› Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
πŸŒ› Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.
by Mikao Usui, I don't know who translated it.
I added "be blinded by" and "feel"

The Tarot Elements are:
πŸŒœ Fire - represented by wands
πŸŒœ Water - represented by cups
πŸŒœ Earth - represented by pentacles
πŸŒœ Air - represented by swords
πŸŒœ Spirit - represented by major arcana

And now we combine them.

Just for today:
πŸŒ• I will not be blinded by anger - FireπŸ”₯πŸœ‚ - Wands|
πŸŒ• I will not be blinded by worry - WaterπŸŒŠπŸœ„- Cups🍢
πŸŒ• I will feel grateful - EarthπŸ’ŽπŸœƒ - Pentacles✪
πŸŒ• I will do my work honestly - AirπŸŒͺ🜁 - Swords⚔
πŸŒ• I will be kind to every living thing - Spirit☥∞ - MajorsπŸ’€

In knowing these, when I do a Tarot spread to help with a conscious, I can be mindful of where I may need to strengthen a Reiki principle in my life in relation to the question. Or even tell me that I'm doing better than I think I am! Some examples:
  1. If I'm getting a lot of wands maybe instead of stewing in anger or blindly acting out in anger I need to work on setting a boundary and choosing to transform that anger into a drive to make things better, transmuting it to purpose and hope.
  2. Or perhaps I am getting a lot of cups as an indicator that perhaps I need to transmute worry into faith hope and trust.
  3. Maybe with pentacles I need to remember to enjoy what I do have, to feel and be grateful for that.
  4. With swords maybe I need to see what justifications I am making in making choices for someone instead of empowering them, or being dishonest with myself about myself.
  5. And with spirit, I need to always remember who I am and who I want to be  and to allow all things to exist, honoring transformations. All the stories must be told. A tree can only grow so fast even in the most ideal conditions.
Here are some reading examples.
A quick one card reading, "What do I need to keep in mind today?"
I pull a Queen of Swords.

Swords is what I call the "cutting through the BS" suit. It's also about transformation, thoughts, reasoning, truth, and ethical logical behavior. The Queen of Swords is a logical person who gets things done, and is meticulous, but can be quite stern. This card could be reminding me that part of doing my work honestly is stay true to my personal code of ethics and not let others pressure me into doing something that's a bit underhanded. So I could say, Ah, swords, a reminder to do my work honestly, and to be sure that I see things clearly and logically.

Here is a spread for Body Mind and Spirit. What are things going to look today (or this trip, or this visit, etc) for my Body Mind Spirit?

1: Body
5 of Pentacles, ah, pentacles, I need to remember to feel grateful for what I do have. My physical self will needs some tender loving care because its gonna feel impoverished about something, maybe from lack sleep, or sleeping wrong, or over exercising, etc. Now I am prepared, I can talk softly and kindly to my body and remember to be grateful and feel grateful for my body as it is, no judgments attached.

2: Mind
Wheel of Fortune, ah, major arcana card, spirit, I will be kind to every living thing, including myself. Wheel of Fortune, okay, the rolling-with-the-punches this-too-shall-pass card. I need a  "I got this kind" of attitude and help from guides to make things run more smoothing. Just roll with it. In this way my mind will be sharp and accepting and thus able to feel kindness no matter what is going on.

3: Spirit
10 of Cups. Spiritually, I'm rocking it, all is well and wonderful! Look at that rainbow of 10 of cups. So much joy and hope right now! I don't even have to worry about being worried. Just for today I will not be blinded by worry will be EASY, like it's not even there at all! Awesome.

All three taken together we have, in short:  gratitude of body, kindness of mind, easily worry-free of spirit, no matter what's going on during this challenging day; simply rolling with it all in good humor - calm of heart, and clear of mind.

An Experience w/the Doors of Love & Light Auracle card deck

I was blessed to be able to get the Kindle edition of the guidebook to accompany these cards. I have seen the physical cards in action in my Tarot classes where we are learning different spreads you can use (since spreads for Tarot can be used for oracle cards and vise versa).  They have been pretty amazing.

However, I hadn't had a visceral experience of them before in my own life, until fairly recently. I was reading the guidebook one evening and my spirit guides directed to me look at specific cards by number. They had a message for me. Now for a bit of context, for the majority of April I was experiencing more post-traumatic stress symptoms than is now usual for me, and experiencing a serious uptick in migraines. I wasn't in a very good place a lot of the time, though I did my best to bring in the energy of joy and laughter and love in my life.

Here are three of the cards, edited screenshots from the e-book, used with permission by the author, Rita Morgin. Click on the images to enlarge them.

When I read these words,
"I trust and allow your right to exist,"

my breath caught in my throat. I stopped breathing for a moment, stunned to be reading those words. Previous spiritual experiences were recalled into my mind all at once, like a split screen TV, and I remembered the words they told me previously, "You are worthy because you exist," and the struggles of still feeling like I have to justify my existence, to be worthy of it.

I read on,
"your right to breathe,"

and suddenly I started breathing again,
"and I trust that your heaven on Earth causes me no harm,"

and I just wanted to cry, because somewhere, deep inside me for so long, I had the belief that I was dangerous, that somehow despite all my best intentions, I would end up hurting people. (Systemic childhood abuse is a doozy.)

The felt my pulse quicken, my eyes widened, pupils dilating because suddenly the room was brighter, as I read these words:

"We no longer have a need to create painful experiences as normal. The universe invites you to create a 'New Normal' with joy and ease. ... As you create your 'new normal', you may find it easier to choose that any pain you are experiencing is no longer your body's 'normal' but only a temporary transition as you heal."

And now, the tears came. Reading this.

Context. In my trauma group therapy we talked about how after the traumatizing experience that your body changes and responds to the world differently, creating a new normal for you. They say this is a way of radical acceptance, because in order to truly heal from something, you have accept everything about it as being what it is, including post-traumatic stress symptoms no matter how debilitating they can be. This is important because we often get angry at ourselves at our bodies for reacting to events now as if they are the events then, and having all these different trauma responses. The reality is my body gave me the gift of survival. It broke up all the pain into little pieces so I could survive in a toxic environment, for which I am truly grateful.

But somehow, even though I believe in healing, even though my symptoms have dramatically reduced over the years, especially post 2016 when I started getting targeted therapy, I had entirely missed that at some point a new normal will be created, and here it was, taking me by the collar and saying YES, you can now have a NEW new normal! Such a radical, heartening, hopeful notion. A new normal, where I don't have to keep being in pain for pain I have experienced to be valid.

I cannot wait to have this card in my hands so I can hang it up as a reminder when I'm having a harder time with things.

I then had to laugh at this one. I have been doing a lot of ancestral healing, and oh, I have one story that's. . . . a thing. I have been intending to write about it for a while, I think I will have to now. Anyway, the whole
"clearing and calming the agitation"

just really made me laugh, because so many in my ancestral line are stuck in their ways. The wise ancestors that I have, the ones who are healed, go back so so very far in our line it's ridiculous. But maybe I'm judging them too harshly, and that's what the reminder was. That yes, miracles happen but those miracles are a relationship with myself, the land including those who once lived where I live, and my ancestors. An interplay. Harmonizing it together because these three aspects are all part of the same symphony. And to me that is what is meant when it says in the guidebook
"supporting a 'Miracles Happen' attitude."

This reading was everything I needed.

I absolutely pre-ordered this deck. One for me, one for a sister. Every card comes with an meditation! I really want to experience the meditations with these cards, especially creating a new normal.

You can preorder the deck here on IndieGoGo
You can also preorder it from her website Spirit Earth Ministeries
You can order just the book on Amazon and Kindle

I also want to include what I wrote to Rita about this deck and the impact it has had on my life. This is what I wrote to her:
I absolutely adore this deck and cannot wait for my own. Rita, you have been so thoughtful in how you have constructed it and energy that you have infused into the cards. Every color choice, every line, has a meaning and purpose, and I love that. The power of these cards as you have created them, has been made evident in my Meetup classes when you bring them and use them.

I am so excited to get my own deck. I love YOUR energy, and what YOU have done with the cards, and what wonderful energy you are bringing in. At first blush they appear to simple, but Jesus was also a simple carpenter and look at the healing power he brought to the world. It is the same with these cards. I am so grateful to you for having created them, and for being so in tune to the Universe to bring in what's needed into the world for us to heal our spaces.

You are freakin' amazing for doing this, and oh, I'm tearing up, it means so much to me. Thank you so much. I am sensitive to energy and your energy that you are bringing into the cards is so good and so needed, and I have already been blessed by their presence. <3
And one final thing, I really enjoy the synergy of angelic, shamanistic, and faery energy in this deck.

Stay sane, safe, and well my peeps!

The Power of 1-card, 2-card, and 3-card spreads

Sometimes less is more. After all, if spreads are consistently are too complex and take up too much time they become inaccessible, especially under the demands of our world today. Then we don't use the cards and reap nothing because we sowed nothing.

No thanks. Short is good. Quick is good. And all of these little spreads can be expanded as needed! Sometimes using one card to ask an initial question and then after interpreting, doing another one card reading to answer a follow up question is the most efficient way to do things so you may end up with a larger spread at the end, but you built it all off that first one, piece by piece as needed.

Spreads that are created for Tarot cards can be used for oracle cards. Spreads created for oracle cards can be used for Tarot cards. My focus is using Tarot card examples since I use Tarot the most. However I  do not go into extended explanations for the meaning of each card in the example, only what's relevant to my experience with the cards using these spreads. All examples are real personal examples.

So, grab your favorite deck and give these babies a try.

All blessings bright and beautiful.
